Praised for the remarkable agility, precision and warmth of her voice, and for her outstanding musicianship, Sumi Jo has established herself as one of her generation’s most sought-after sopranos. She has been consistently greeted with exceptional accolades, by public and press alike, receiving distinctions such as the Puccini Prize and UNESCO’s designation of “Artist for Peace”. She is renowned for her performances in the most important opera houses, concert halls and galas in places such as the Met Opera, Teatro Colón, Carnegie Hall and the Liege Opera. She has also acquired important features in important worldwide events such as the 2008 Olympics in Beijing and The World Cup, among others.

Born in Korea, Sumi Jo studied in her native country before enrolling in the Conservatory of the Accademia di Santa Cecilia in Rome. She graduated with honours in 1986 and won, that same year, the Carlo Alberto International Singing Competition. Her recital debut in Seoul was followed by concerts with the Korean Broadcasting Company Orchestra. Multiple recitals and concerts show Sumi Jo is also in constant demand as a concert artist, both for special events, galas alongside celebrated artists such as Jonas Kaufmann, Renée Fleming, Dmitri Hvorostovsky and Andrea Bocelli.

Ms. Jo currently has over 50 recordings to her credit. Her experience and recognition in international singing competitions has been pretty vast, earning her many prestigious awards including first prizes at international competitions in Seoul, Naples, Verona, Enna, Barcelona and Pretoria.
