Guidelines & application

• The aspiring competitor submits his or her complete application online.
• Auditions pertaining to the Preliminary Round will be held in 10 cities around the globe. The competitor must register in this website and check online the audition venue and date and present him or herself to the Preliminary Round Auditions.
• 20 to 24 singers will be selected from all 10 audition venues to travel to Buenos Aires, Argentina for the Semifinal Round.
• The Semifinal Round and Final Round will take place at the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires, Argentina, between dates September 4th and September 8th.
•Among them, those selected first place in their audition venue will have their travel expenses covered.
• During the Semifinal Round, 4 competitors will be selected by the Jury to move on to the Final Round.
• Finals will be held in an open and public concert; the singers will perform accompanied by the Orquesta Filarmónica de Buenos Aires.
• The Jury will assign a monetary prize to each of the finalists; a competition winner will be selected.

RULES OF THE 2012 COMPETITION

Application and Auditions

• The application will be online. Subscribe here.

• Applicants may submit their forms up to 14 days before the Preliminary Audition date correspondent to the selected audition venue.

Preliminary Round Auditions

• Once the application is registered, all aspiring contestants must present themselves in the assigned date and place for their preliminary audition.

• These Preliminary Round auditions will be held between the months of May and June; between 20 and 24 singers will be selected from these aspiring competitors to participate in the Semifinal Round which will take place at the Teatro Colón, in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in September 5th, 6th and 7th, 2012. All contestants that move on to this round will be provided accommodations in the city of Buenos Aires; basic travel expenses will also be covered during their stay; competitors selected in first place in their audition venues will also find their plane tickets to Argentina covered.

Repertoire

• All competitors must prepare 5 arias from different operas, including at least 2 Italian arias from different periods.

• Participants will choose the first aria they will perform in the Preliminary Round and in the Semifinal Round.

• Should the jury believe it necessary to hear more from the participant, the jury shall pick a second aria. This instance isn’t compulsory, but the jury is entitled to determine and solicit that some competitors should sing more than two arias.

Evaluation Criteria

In all stages of the competition, namely, Preliminary Auditions, Semifinal and Final rounds, all contestants will be evaluated according to the following criteria:

• Vocal Technique.

• Musicality.

• Artistic Interpretation.

Semifinal Round and Final Round

• In the Semifinal Round, the judges will pick 4 singers to continue performing in the Final stage of the Competition, which will be held in an open and public concert at the Teatro Colón; all singers will be accompanied by the Buenos Aires Philharmonic on Saturday September 8th, at 20.30hs.

• In the Final Concert, the contestants shall compete for 4 monetary prizes, as well as engagements in some of the most prestigious Opera houses of the Latin American region.
