L’Histoire du Soldat

February 18th, 19th & 21st

FOR SEVEN MUSICIANS & NARRATOR
COMPOSED BY IGOR STRAVINSKI
VENUE: VATICANO SQUARE

Pioneering modern musical theater, intended for tours and outdoors presentations, La historia del soldado is an ideal play for this summer festival. It consists of a chamber play that includes narrators and dancers, based on a popular Russian tale that tells the misfortunes of a man that sells its violin to the devil in exchange of a book that predicts the future. Upon Stravinski’s request, the Swiss writer Charles Ferdinand Ramuz wrote a moralizing script, which can be read as a strong allegation against the war.
