May 17th, 20th, 21st, 22nd & 24th

OPERA IN TWO ACTS & FOURTEEN SCENES (1805)
COMPOSED BY LUDWIG VAN BEETHOVEN
LIBRETTO BY JOSEPH SONNLEITHNER BASED ON THE ORIGINAL IN FRENCH
BY JEAN-NICOLAS BOUILLY, ADAPTED TO TWO ACTS
BY STEPHAN VON BREUNING & GEORG FRIEDRICH TREITSCHKE

The author of the Ninth Symphony managed to complete only one opera. His theme couldn’t be other than the fight for freedom, incarnated in a prisoner whose wife has to dress as a man and descend to the underworld in order to save him. The eminent Latin-American conductor Francisco Rettig will conduct opera for the first time in the Colón with this emblematic title of the first German romanticism.
